One of the best and common ways to relieve stress is to take our attention from stress and turn it somewhere else. This is more commonly referred to by psychologists as “distraction”. If you search the web, however, distraction isn’t really that recommended as it may not be very effective. Some people attempt to distract themselves by doing something else, but the stress levels shoot right back up when they get back to what they were doing.

Distraction works for some people, but not for others. This is often due to a lacking element in their distraction technique: fun. Yes, taking a break from work by leaving your desk and having a cup of coffee can work a little. Sometimes, though, you get that “Oh no, I’m going back to work” feeling when your break is over. To relieve stress, a change of scenery or a brief moment of self-reflection may not be enough. You need to add more stress relief techniques to be able to achieve better relief from it.

Stress relief games add that missing element of fun. These games can be whatever you want them to be. Men, for instance, play the sport that they love. Basketball games or a round of golf can be stress relieving for them. Basketball involves exercise, which is a pretty good weapon for stress. Golf doesn’t require that much activity but trains them to concentrate. Add the breathtaking scenery of the golf course to the mix, and you have a stress relieving experience. As you can see, these games contain the fun, the exercise, and the scenery change that make them good stress relievers.

If you’re stuck in the office, however, then there are also stress relief games for you. You can find a lot all over the internet. You may have heard a co-worker or a teenager raving about Farmville. Farmville is a game about, well, growing a farm. While it doesn’t sound appealing, its cartoon-ish look and feel, plus the sense of fulfilment of being able to harvest crops for money, can function as a stress reliever for a lot of people. The simple card games you can find in your PC, such as solitaire, can be effective too. Others prefer to play online against real people. Online poker, with virtual money, is becoming increasingly popular.

Stress relief games can be found offline too. Surely you have experienced “icebreakers” during your training days in office. You may have played guessing games or word games that helped make training more fun. You can also bring a crossword to the office, or a sudoku book. Any game that you like can help you relieve stress.
